Path of the Planes Episode 11: The Blood Wars

Please note: episode 10 was a one-shot set in the MPP timeline but featuring Kelli & Sean as the villains Rouette & Tragar Hax, respectively, with special guest stars @EricVulgaris & @TheGodDamnDM)

The heroes were sailing on the River Styx. The merrenolth who was steering the small skiff brought them close to what appeared to be a border of the plane. The heroes could see a line of blackness up ahead, perhaps a mile or two away. Bruilinde could sense that was the direction that the adventurers needed to head.

The merrenoloth turned and docked. The group realized that this was as far as it would take them. They’d have to walk the rest of the way. Despite Bruilinde’s charms – and a kiss on his withered cheek – she was unable to get any information as to where they could possibly get at least some water, as their supplies had run dangerously low.

The heroes turned invisible and began walking. Suddenly, a disheveled, battle-worn Erinyes landed near them and began addressing the empty air around her, looking for the heroes. Introducing herself as Rayha, she tempted them with talk of knowing the whereabouts of Tragar Hax – but before any further conversation could be made, Jezmayrayeen and another Erinyes landed, interrogating her as to the whereabouts of the party, letting her know that she KNEW this was a very bad area to be in.

Suddenly, a bellow.

Turning, still invisible, our heroes saw a mass of creatures heading toward them – demons from the Abyss! An entire demonic army!

From behind them, with a cry, came an army of devils. The adventurers were literally about to be caught in the middle of a Blood War battle.

Bruilinde made a battlefield agreement with the devils. The group would assist them in exchange for free passage. The heroes were given three tasks. The first of which was to protect two hellfire engines as the devils got them started up; Second, to defeat a large, bull-like demon that was bellowing angrily from the head of the army; third, hold a narrow bridge across the Styx.

The demons attacked, and the group found themselves fighting a vrock and a chasme while devils frantically tried to rev up a hellfire engine. Rayha fought alongside the group.

Finally, after a few very near misses – and some that did not miss at all – they found themselves with a fully functional Hellfire engine. As it began to move, Bruilinde, with the help of Lux and Odos, wrested the controls and turned it towards the second Hellfire engine, hoping to use it to both make their task easier…and possibly to keep it for their own. ut before they could try to pull that off, they needed to survive the battle at hand….
