As the party leaves the battle, they gather above the city gate. The lights and sounds remind Krisztian of a memory…
There is a young boy looking at him, beaming as he does so. He playfully tells him of the “sideways place” he has gone to. Krizstian warns him of spending too much time in the sideways place, and that because of the time he spent there, his person has changed. This is why he always speaks in jokes. The child asks why he and Krisztian, who seems to be his father, can’t stay together. He doesn’t understand. He wants to know why they must travel to the Library in the morning. They say goodnight and the little boy covers himself in a blanket and disappears from beneath it.
Xilphiir feels a buzz in the locket she wears around her neck, and she opens it, knowing it is Potch. He says that they must leave sooner than anticipated to retrieve the item and that they must take another path, as the battle has gotten out of hand. He suggests that any temple near the palace would have a way to travel between the two.
Krisztian blinks and seems confused, he reminds us that he was struck my lightning and is badly injured. Matthias offers him two vials of a healing potion, which he accepts and clinks together. The sound of the clinking glass trigger a memory.
Matthias is a young boy. He is eating hot soup and staring at his mother across the table. She is proud of him and his ability. A tall, thin man enters the room & sits next to his mother. They cheer to his improving health. Matthias is clearly strained, weak, and exhausted from focusing his healing energy. The man scoots in closer to his mother, who smiles up at him and is enthralled. The thin man asks about Michael. Matthias says Michael is a herald of Heronius and aids him in his healing because he has been “touched by divine.” While they converse, the thin man pleasures Matthias’ mother under the table. The man asks Matthias to find out what Michael knows of his own future, what he thinks of him.
Kristian gulps down a healing potion. Matthias asks how they should cross the city to get to one of the temples. Mavari begins to levitate, and Matthias is able to hold her close as he flies from rooftop to rooftop. Xilphiir casts a spell on herself and Krisztian and they follow behind. While he has Mavari close to him, Matthias whispers that he would like to inspect the Helm they have been tasked to acquire more closely, that is it certainly a powerful object. Mavari agrees and says they should hold onto it as long as they need to. Mavari has a memory of her brother holding her close.
Mavari sees her brother, he says he will not be gone long. She doesn’t believe him. They are on an older version of the Scarlet Revenge and in warmer, smellier waters. They’re moving boxes. Her brother asks if she’s ever wondered about their father, that he has caught him lying. Mavari responds by reminding him that they’re pirates and laughs at her brother’s question. He says that he’s caught their father lying to the family before. That maybe he is dealing with people he is ashamed to tell the family about, and that he finds it strange that he was sent to do a job with no information, which seems suspicious. He was sent alone. This information grabs Mavari’s attention. He is to leave in two days, completely on his own.
Matthias continues to hold Mavari tight as they fly over rooftops and begin to avoid cobblestones as they land. There are screams, cries, and fires all around as the battle continues on. We all land and arrive at the opening of a structure. Inside, there are many women dressed in thin red robes or frocks. They are moaning. We see a woman in the distance leaning over a table upon which another woman’s body lies. Matthias suggests they all leave. At this, a woman dressed in white drops a bowl to the ground and asks him “Have you come for us now? We’re ready to meet our Goddess. The time has come.” The women all begin to disrobe at once. Kristzian dashes through the women and throws his net over the woman in white. He sees that the woman on the table is alive, but her chest is completely open, her organs displayed. A woman approaches Matthias an he tries to convince her to stop. She argues that they will know more power than he can comprehend once the ritual is complete. She cuts open her stomach and chest with a knife as she speaks. One by one, the women behind her do the same. Krisztian creates a fog cloud in the room and begs us to heal the women so that they cannot complete the ritual. They all drop their knives in unison, and the sounds reminds Xilphiir of a time long ago.
Xilphiir is in an ornate dining room made of obsidian, spiders are etched into the ceilings. A woman says “Tell me that you’ve brought good news.” They’re seated at a long dining table amongst the rulers of the noble houses. This is clearly the chamber of the High Priestess of Lolth. Lirax sits to Xilphiir’s left. She appears to be tense, she tells the Priestess that the mission is accomplished and that the the House in question is no more. Everyone clinks their glasses in celebration and Priestess Gutera seems pleased. She asks that the Asassin to complete the mission stand up. She questions Xilphiir on the family’s death, which Xil is hesitant to answer. Lirax blurts out that the Lord & Lady of the House are dead. Eclavdra is angered with knowledge that the daughter of the House was able to escape Lirax’s “finest” assasin and is still alive. The Priestess mocks Xil while she slowly tortures Lirax. Xil, angry, spits out that if she wanted the task done she could go fucking do it herself.
Through the fog cloud, we fight the women we are able to see. One of them shows Matthias her beautiful large black wings and pleads with him to stop. Eventually Matthias decides to stop fighting them and is able to convince them to assist us (typical Matthias move). Mavari is pissed, she wants to keep attacking. He asks Mavari to draft a contract between them and they agree to bring us inside. He has somehow attracted more of them to him and Mavari gets more pissed. We go further in.
